WapWay.net -- Indsoft Infotek shows the way for WAP portals

Thiruvananthapuram: A WAP portal www.WapWay.net, to enable mobile users to get connected to the Internet, has been launched in Kerala. Technopark-based company Indsoft Infotek and Services Ltd claims that it is the first WAP portal to be launched by a non-WAP service provider, in India.WapWay.net offers users localised data like weather information, traffic information, local headlines, and daily events. It also allows the user to shop online using mobile phones. "You can reserve anything from movie tickets to hotel rooms and a table at your favourite restaurant," according to V Suresh Kumar, MD of Indsoft Infotek, who wants to be well positioned to take advantage of the fast growth anticipated in this sector.It is expected that 40 per cent of all the Web access will be through mobile devices by the year 2003. Other features includes page creation, e-mail, search facility, shopping cart, movie reservation, pre-formatted mails, weather, news headlines, shopping bargains, stock quotes, train and flight timings, traffic information, horoscope, advertisement, jobs, world time, currency converter, stock rates, hotel reservation and yellow pages. WAP is a global specification which gives mobile users with wireless devices the opportunity to easily access with information and services. A WAP phone is required to access WAP services but telecom experts predict that WAP phones would become cheaper and faster with in a few months, says Suresh Kumar. Indsoft is expanding its operations in Canada, Japan, Singapore, Bahrain, Africa etc by entering into partnerships to provide e-commerce services, Web-based services and software development.
