Chennai: HCL has launched a new range of PCs (Ultima and Elite models) under its BeanStalk range of PC's at its Pondicherry plant. The home PC's is marketed by Frontline Division, the distribution arm of the Rs 950 crore HCL Infosystems.The newly launched PC's come with Pentium 3, 650 MHz processors and can also be used as a DVD player, fax machine, answering machine, gaming machine, education and entertainment tool.They are provided with Internet access devices as well.
The PC's are equipped with a 17 inch monitor and high end audio system to create a home theatre environment. Options such as web camera are also available. Priced between Rs 45,000 and Rs. 1,00,000 they will be available in the market from May 23.
According to Rajendra Kumar, president, Frontline Division, a home customer today wants his PC to be aesthetically different from his office machine and should be in a position to combine power with a bouquet of education and utility features.
HCL presently has 12 per cent market share in the PC segment and enjoys the highest brand recall of 83 per cent according to the latest IMRB survey. Unbranded PC's account for about 50 per cent of the market share.
