Enron Communications to set up gateways with Rs 600cr investment

Sanjay Jog
Mumbai, May 15: Enron Communications India will set up multiple international gateways via satellite in Mumbai with an initial investment of around Rs 600 crore which will later be raised to Rs 2,000 crore. The company proposes to set up an earth station with a bandwidth of 44.736 Mbps to start with.

Sources told The Financial Express that digital data content will be exchanged between Mumbai and an international exchange point via the space segment provider. The company's preference for the exchange point includes the US, the UK, Asia and Europe.

The satellite space segment provider (SSP) will install, maintain and provide the network management of a 44.736 Mbps duplex digital link service from an international earth station to a customer provided 6m earth station located throughout continental India with initial connectivity to Mumbai.

ECI will require satellite earth station supply and installation, verification testing of the earth station and identification of an alternate satellite service in case of the failure of the primary facility.

The SSP will ensure compliance with the department of telecommunications for all services provided.

The SSP will monitor and trend transmit carrier performance, provide Enron Communications India (ECI) with transmit carrier performance date on a month-to-month basis for the first three months and every three months thereafter.

Moreover, the SSP will provide uplink power control on the teleport transmit carrier and it will ensure that the ECI satellite service uplink carrier meets all parameters for transmission into India.

The SSP will provide link budgets for the proposed satellite links. In addition to this, it will also provide additional link-based information when ECI requires such information.

The SSP will be instrumental in providing a primary international uplink facility with connectivity to a terrestrial connection. It will provide dynamic redundancy for all items capable of supporting automatic fail-over and static redundancy for all other uplink components.

The SSP will also be responsible for the provision of mean time to failure and mean time between failure data for all devices from the upconverter to the transmit feed assembly.
