Editorial -- Need to go slow

Internet companies need to explore new avenues for financing. It is time they develop strong business models and sustainable revenue models. Only then would they be able to tap the IPO market successfully.

Alongside, it is essential to create an investor-friendly environment for sound dot-coms. Clear payment gateways need to be developed and Indian banks should expand their electronic fund transfer facilities. Courier and logistics industries need to be given a new thrust. Broadbanding should be ushered in soon. All these issues need to be addressed on a priority basis. Moreover, banks and financial institutions need to change their mindset and evolve guidelines for financing dot-coms.

Indian dot-com aspirants should shed their herd mentality and desist from rushing in with their half-baked ideas. It is in everyone’s interests that dot-coms are kicked off only after all loose ends are tied up. For, failure of a few high-profile dot-coms is sure to mar the prospects of the entire industry.
