Bank of Maharashtra CMD Vaish passes away

Pune, May 29: Madan Mohan Vaish, chairman and managing director of Bank of Maharashtra, passed away on Monday morning. Vaish complained of chest pain at around 6 am and succumbed after a massive cardiac arrest. He was 58.

Vaish had taken over as CMD of Bank of Maharashtra on December 3, 1998. It was only last week that he had unveiled Bank of Maharashtra's Rs 100 crore IT initiative. Vaish had successfully mobilised tier-II capital of Rs 170 crore last year. He was actively working on the the proposed public issue of Bank of Maharashtra. Last year, the bank clocked deposits of Rs 13,000 crore and advances to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore.Prior to the present assignment, he was the executive director of UCO Bank from April 1996.

Employees and members of the board paid tributes to Vaish at a condolence meeting organised at the Bank of Maharashtra's headquarters at Lokmangal in Pune.Born on December 27, 1941, Vaish started his career as a probationary officer in 1966 with the State Bank of Indore. He later joined Bank of Saurashtra on deputation and worked as General manager (operations) from July 1987 to August 1990. As general manager (operations) he was in charge of credit, personnel, banking operations and general administration of the bank. Vaish joined the State Bank of Mysore on deputation in August 1990 and stayed there till September 1992 as general manager (planning and development) responsible for corporate business planning review of performance and the training system. He joined back State Bank of Indore in October 1992 and stayed there till October 1993 as general manager ( operations). Vaish was promoted as chief general manager in October 1993 and posted to the State Bank of Hyderabad. Vaish is survived by his wifePushpa Vaish, two sons and a daughter.
