Geometric gets foothold in Asean mkts, bags order from Taiwan co

Pune, May 31: Geometric Software Solutions' attempt to carve a niche for itself in the South East Asian markets is beginning to show results. The company recently bagged one of its largest orders from OneTech, a company based in Taiwan. Geometric's business from the Japanese market went up 200 per cent with the number of customers going up from four to 15. We have identified three to four key players in Japan with whom we would be building partnerships, Manu Parpia, MD, Geometric Solutions said."Japanese are realising the importance of outsourcing and are making an effort to move out of propriety systems. The market for converting legacy systems to general purpose systems offers big potential," Parpia added. Geometric is a leading provider of software application, component technology and development services to CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM vendors. Nearly 44 per cent of the company's earnings came from licensed technology. Parpia was in Pune to open the new software development centre at the Pune Infotech Park at Hinjwadi. The 50,000 sq. ft. facility was funded from the proceeds of the IPO carried out by Geometric in February 2000. An investment of Rs 15 crore has been made in the facility which will house around 400 software developers. There is also provision for doubling capacity. Pune will be the main development centre for Geometric. The company's development centre at Pirojshanagar, Mumbai is also being expanded and upgraded. Company chairman Jamshyd Godrej said that Geometric had been successful in the export market and it should now also explore the domestic market.
