Picture perfect -- Software for Lakme kiosks

Chennai, June 7: Avigna Technologies Ltd. has developed a software for photo capturing faces in real time which is to be used by Lakme at its kiosks. The system enables the customer to experiment with the Lakme range of cosmetics in a virtual environment through touch-screen interaction.

Shobha Ponnappa, managing director and chief executive, told The Financial Express that the software was the first of its kind and was developed with the help of technical expertise available in the forensic sciences area and knowledge of cosmetics from the company, clients and experts.

The company, which is into new media content, communications development and Web-based solutions, has been funded by ICICI Venture, Intel and Chrysalis Capital. Avigna plans to target the US market during the coming year and is in talks with one of the big five consulting companies for the same. Offices are planned in New York and the Silicon Valley.

Ponnappa said that she expects a revenue of $ 10 to 15 million by the end of the calendar year from US operations. The company has also undertaken 27 assignments in Europe and is looking at Australia and the Middle East for further growth. The company which employees 85 professionals at present plans to add 165 more in two to three months' time.
