Mumbai, June 7: As part of a major organisational restructuring, ComputerAssociates (CA) International Inc has moved CA India's managing directorVenkat Subbarao to Singapore. Subbarao, as senior vice-president, will nowbe responsible for CA's operations in South and South-east Asia.However, he will continue to serve as director in all of CA's ventures inthe region. These ventures include CA TCG Software, SimplySoft Technologiesand CA Escosoft. Subbarao, who has been working with CA for the past 12years, was appointed as managing director of CA India in 1998. CA India isthe wholly-subsidiary of the $6.3 billion Computer Associates InternationalInc of the US.Although Subbarao will look after Indian operations fromSingapore, there will be no managing director in the country as earlier.
Company officials say this arrangement will not have any impact on CA'sIndian operations. CA will continue with its investment plans as announcedin 1997 in India. CA has plans to pump in around $100 million over a periodof five years.
CA India, which has about 400 employees, functions through four sales andsupport offices located in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Calcutta and jointventure development centres in Calcutta and Delhi.
Company officials said CA was planning to focus on channel partners and therelated business areas. CA India is planning to achieve about 50 per cent ofits total revenue from channel business as against the present 10 per cent.The remaining 50 per cent will come from direct business.
Targeting the small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the main focus of thecompany will be on distribution of products and services through partners inIndia. CA India has also announced a marketing alliance with RedingtonIndia, the second largest infotech distribution company in the country.
With this, the Rs 750 crore Redington is looking at getting into theenterprise segment of the IT industry.CA officials claim that the firm hasalready tied up with companies like Maruti Udyog, Escorts, Pepsi, Infosys,SmithKline Beecham, HDFC Bank, etc for its Unicentre TNG, the globalstandard solution in end-to-end enterprise management. Unicentre TNG has amarketshare of more than 90 per cent in India.
