Tatas to merge three electricity companies

In a major consolidation drive, the Tata group is finally set to merge the three Tata Electric Companies (TEC) - Tata Power, Andhra Valley Power Supply Company, and Tata Hydro-Electric Power Supply.

US District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson ordered Microsoft Corp split in two and imposed sweeping restrictions on the software giant's business practices, setting off a new round in the titanic legal struggle that is headed for the Supreme Court.

RBI talk lifts Re from life-time low of 44.95

The rupee on Thursday fell by 20 paise from its overnight close to a new low of 44.95. A strong statement from the Reserve Bank of India on the "speculative" nature of trades and it asking banks to maintain square positions helped the currency recover to close at 44.7350/75.
