Mumbai, June 9: Finsights.com, a personal finance portal, is planning to raise Rs 6 crore through private placement to meet its first round of funding. "We have signed a confidential agreement with a venture capital fund. The evaluation process is on," said finsights.com managing director Milan Sangani. The Website is adding two new channels: personal taxation and a non-resident advisory channel. It already has an investment and a loan section. "We will be having four channels in a month's time," Sangani said. After the integration of the four channels, finsights.com will offer personal finance planning services. "We will move from a product distribution to a personal finance advisory site. This will be our USP," said Sangani. The site will create an interactive module based on mass customisation and automate personal financial planning. It will standarise modules which can be combined to create customised financial packages for specific requirements.
The package will be developed after asset allocation and financial product selection is made. Once created, the financial package will be able to monitor investments by using a portfolio tracker. Finsights's revenue model today is more transaction-based. The Website offers a plethora of investment (except equity and IPOs) and consumer finance products. Admits Sangani, "The site users can compare, locate and buy personal finance products suiting their needs. But we plan to activate the other revenue streams."
His plan: to earn commissions on sale of investment and loan products, sub-commissions on e-broking, subscriptions to portions of tax, NRI and financial planning channels, revenues from online tutorials, content licensing to other sites and advertisements.
Finsight will offer advisory services in personal taxation, procedural approvals to overseas Indians for investments and borrowings and personal finance planning. "We have unique digital advisors covering a variety of situations. The investment wizard, for instance, picks up the investor's requirements and searches its several category databases for all products suiting the investor's needs," said Sangani. The digital advisors will work on the raw databases and produce recommendations for which the consumer finds an immediate value proposition. The backend will have calculators to compute the data. The Website is developing a flexible Web-enabled income and capital gains tax computation models.
