Engineering college buddies launch portal for students

Chennai, June 9: LearningSpiral.com Pvt Ltd has promoted a niche portal buckleyourshoe.com targeted at students in the age group 16 to 24 years. The portal is the brainchild of four students from Delhi College of Engineering. The Web site will provide details of educational institutions in the country and abroad, The portal will also provide information on private tutors and coaching institutes across the country.

Counselling on career opportunities, foreign education, sex education and abuse will be provided through the site and offline (if needed) said Madhulika Mohta, vice president - marketing, speaking to eFE. The portal has been set up with a paid up capital of Rs 30 lakh. Nagrika exports has picked a 10 per cent stake in the company for Rs 40 lakh during the first round of funding. The site is looking for revenue from listing educational institutions, advertisements and market research for third parties based on the database the Web site collects.

The company is in talk with US universities for handling admission and application procedure on their behalf through its Website. The site expects its revenue to match the costs it incurs by September. The portal expects to have a strong offline presence through channel partners appointed at various cities. The company is in the process of signing up 200 of them and plans to have 1,000 by the end of the calendar year.
