Volvo to enter passenger segment by year-end

Kochi, June 10: Volvo India Private Limited is planning to enter the passenger vehicle segment by the end of the year. "We will be introducing "intercity" long distance buses", said Volvo India's managing director Ravi Uppal. These buses will be of 280 HP engine, centrally airconditioned and conforming to Euro II emission norms. The seats will be ergonomically designed, including (chemical) toilet on board, he added. Apart from making and selling trucks, Volvo was involved in providing a host of services like complete maintenance, Uppal said. Maintenance includes any kind of repair for which the company has opened a workshop here.The workshop houses all kinds of spare parts and company trained technicians equipped with machinery and skills to deal with any job, according to Uppal. Other services of the company include arranging insurance cover for their clients and training drivers. The training will be at their Level 1 workshop at Bangalore, Bombay, Delhi and Calcutta and the drivers are educated upon the various computer operated controls of the vehicle and simple daily maintenance of the vehicle which will result in optimum result from the machine. Apart from these services, the company had readied a rapid action service team which operates 24 hours, Uppal said. The team can be contacted over a telephone about any emergency on the roads. Volvo was also involved in providing consultancy services to their clients for logistics planning which helps improve the client's costing and revenue earnings, said Ravi Uppal.
