Sudipto Dey
New Delhi: Education portal eGurucool.com has entered into an alliance with online book store, Firstandsecond.com to offer a e-commerce link for buying books on the Web. The new service, to be launched soon, will offer surfers the opportunity to review and purchase relevant book titles from Firstandsecond.com. Based on a revenue-sharing basis, the tie-up includes cross-promotion such as banner advertising and relevant keyword placement.Speaking to eFe, Firstandsecond.com cheif executive officer GBS Bindra said the company is looking for similar such alliances with other portals and ISPs.

Delivering innovative navigational service, the alliance will offer users direct links to related Firstandsecond.com book titles from every eGurucool.com book search result and book category page. The alliance will provide book lovers with the broadest, most comprehensive and easiest access to information on the Web. "By working with eGurucool.com, we expect to expand the reach and visibility of Firstandsecond.com," Bindra said.

Commenting on the tie-up, eGurucool chief executive officer Vivek Agarwal said that through alliance with Firstandsecond.com, the portal was adding yet another dimension to the user-experience on eGurucool.com.

Touted as country's biggest online bookstore, Firstandsecond.com is presently focussing on academic and professional books, Bindra said. The company will be looking to selling vernacular books online over the next six months. These will be specifically targeted at NRI-readers, he added. The portal is also looking at targeting markets in Asia-Pacific region.

Bindra said the portal has sold over 11,000 thousand books online since its launch in May this year. The portal claims to have over a million book titles in its kitty. The e-store targets India's 73 lakh student and professionals in the 18 to 30 age group which constitutes over 70 per cent of the book market.

Bindra said the portal plans to go for venture finance to the tune of $ 5 million in the next six months for its expansion plans.

Plans are afoot to set up warehouses in several city across the country. The site offers discounts to buyers to the extent of 25 per cent, Bindra added.
