Telecom circles told to speed up construction of leased circuits
The department of telecom services (DTS) has asked chief general managers of all telecom circles to speed up provision of leased circuits within 30 days of the application. "The main thrust is to provide leased circuits within 30 days from the date of application by the party, in all cases which do not require construction of new lines," an official statement said in New Delhi. To eliminate the delay caused in obtaining feasibility, heads of circles have been advised to identify the cities and towns in their jurisdiction where feasibility report was not required.European software, Nasscom to work jointly
Most of the European software industry associations have agreed to work with Nasscom, an association of Indian software and service companies, to increase cooperation between India and Europe in the information technology sector. Stating this, Nasscom president Dewang Mehta, who is in Lisbon for the first India-EU summit, told reporters that during discussions initiated by Nasscom here, it was evaluated that there was a shortage of more than 200,000 software professionals in Europe.
IT working group invites suggestions
Information technology for masses", a working group set up by the Union government has invited suggestions from public to make IT more people- oriented. The group, headed by BJP leader Prakash Jawdekar, would be making recommendations to the government, an official release said in Mumbai.
Arthur Andersen's wireless benchmarking tool in India
Arthur Andersen has announced plans to launch a wireless benchmarking tool to enable Indian telecom companies to compare their services in the international market. "The new wireless benchmarking tool to be launched by July-end, would allow telecom companies in India to benchmark their services vis-a-vis other players in domestic and international market," Sanjay Mehta, partner, Arthur Andersen told PTI.
Spin-off arm of Lucent Tech renamed
The Enterprise Networks Group, has announced that the new spin-off of Lucent Technologies will be called Avaya. The spin-off, which was announced in March, will be completed by September-end. Avaya will focus on enabling enterprises to success in the eBusiness by providing advanced communications hardware, software, and solutions.
Birlasoft Inc in technical tie-up with Art Technology
Birlasoft has forged an alliance with the Art Technology Group (ATG) following a similar tie-up with BEA Systems announced earlier. The new tie-up shall initially benefit Birlasoft in terms of training for its technical staff in ATG's state-of-the-art Dynamo suite of products which include the Dynamo application server. the Dynamo personalization server .and the Dynamo commerce server.
