Narendra Sharma to succeed Rajagoplan

New Delhi: Narendra Sharma, is slated to succeed S Rajagopalan as the new chairman and managing director (CMD) of MTNL. According to sources, Ram Vilas Paswan, minister of communications, has sent his recommendations for the position of CMD and Sharma, who is currently working as secretary, TRAI, is said to be on top of the list. It is expected that the Prime Minister, who is scheduled to return on June 30, will accept the recommendation and appoint Sharma as the new CMD. Till the appointment is finalized, an interim arrangement is being worked out. Two names have been proposed for the same - C Ramesh, advisor, production and G D Gaiha, director, technical. According to sources, as per the guidelines of Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Gaiha, who is the senior most functional director should look after the post of CMD, in case of a temporary vacancy.Meanwhile, the members of the much awaited Telecom Disputes Settlement Apllete Tribunal (TDSAT), have finally been selected. While Justice Sen had already been appointed as the chairman of the tribunal, R U S Prasad, who is retiring tomorrow from the post of secretary, department of posts and P R Dasgupta, secretary, education are believed to have been selected as the two members. The telecom industry has been eagerly awaiting the formation of the new tribunal, which is supposed to adjudicate disputes between operators and the regulators. The industry is hoping that the issues like WPC dues, CPP, and licence fee dues, for the paging, basic and cellular service providers, will now be resolved soon.
