CMM launches two channels via Thaicom-3

Chandan Banerjee
Calcutta: Kirit Mehta, one of India's largest copper importers who promoted Creative Media Magic, has launched two channels in Mumbai via the Thaicom-3 satellite. Hiren H Doshi, vice-president of CMM, claims that one of the channels, AASTHA, will be the world's first channel dedicated to broadcast India's rich spiritual, cultural, philosophical and mythological heritage. "The channel is committed to attract every age group, especially the new generation, and is already available to people in 126 countries on a premium digital platform for excellent telecast quality," Doshi said. He added that AASTHA will vividly portray India's rich heritage which has endured and outlived various onslaughts across centuries. "The free-to air channel will feature discourses, bhajans and kirtans, chart the holy places for pilgrimage, focus on our traditional festivals and dwell on ancient Indian vedic sciences like ayurveda, yoga, faith healing and astrology to enrich the new generation and ensure a better tomorrow", he said.

Simultaneously, CMM is beaming an unadulterated fun-filled digital free-to-air music channel "with more rhymes and reasons for watching and enjoying music at its best." Doshi said that the Thaicom 3 satellite channel will not entertain stereotyped film songs, generally aired by other channels. "Like AASTHA, this channel targets audiences of all ages and to keep the show going, sponsors will be entertained. At present, the channels are being beamed for six hours in Mumbai only by virtue of a negotiation between CMM and cable operators. Doshi expects that the countrywide network will be completed in the next six weeks. "Then the channels will run for 24 hours by all major multi-system operators", he feels. So far, the company has been handling post-production features like mixing, graphic and special effects, 2D and 3D animation in its 19,000sqft studio in Worli.
