After six weeks of free service the portal has begun charging users and this has not affected the response to the portal, Gera said. "In the last three weeks we have already seen revenues of Rs 2.5 lakh," Gera said.
Subscription rates varying from Rs 1500 to Rs 2400 is being levied on users. The portal offers a transaction channel between buyers and sellers in the construction business.
In addition to offering the Internet-based platform for all transactions, buyers can also log on and request for the best possible quote for their requirement.
To overcome the limited Net penetration among suppliers and buyers of construction material, the portal offers e-mail to fax connectivity. As soon as buyers post their material requirement on the site the suppliers concerned are informed via e-mail or fax, mobile and pagers.
"This facility has helped rope in a lot of small suppliers. Nearly 70 per cent of the customers are using fax, mobile or pagers to link up with the portal," Gera said.
