New Delhi, July 2: Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company Limited (TELCO), which is in the process of delisting its shares from the stock exchanges of Ludhiana, Hyderabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Kochi, has decided not to initiate negotiations with the striking labour Union at its Lucknow plant. The company had declared a lockout at the plant a few months back following labour unrest and clashes, and shifted production to its Jamshedpur and Pune units.''We will not initiate talks with the labour unions unless they emerge as a group and admit their fault,'' TELCO senior vice president (commercial vehicles) Ravi Kant said. The lockout was declared after a clash between the labour union and the police damaged the factory considerably. Stating that the lockout would not impact its output, Kant said, ''We are meeting the demand from our remaining two units.''
TELCO is also planning to introduce at least two new variants on the Indica platform, including a mid-sized car, and a luxury sedan 'Magna' in 2001. As part of options on the Indica platform, the company is contemplating the introduction of the van and pick-up versions.
TELCO general manager (passenger car division) Rajive Dube said, "TELCO is confident of meeting its sales target of 90,000 units of Indica this fiscal despite the downturn in demand in the passenger car segment."
