Star -- Rs 15 cr to promote the Crorepati

Sudipto Dey
New Delhi: Star Television has lined up a series of ground events as a run-up to the much-hyped Amitabh Bachchan-anchored show Kaun Banega Crorepati which goes on air at Star Plus, starting July 3. Over the next three days, a marketing blitzkrieg will strike major cities across the country surrounding KBC and the Big B.

Rupert Murdoch-promoted Star TV has earmarked around Rs 15 crore to promote its prime time show over the next one year. In the pipeline are several marketing initiatives to spread the message across. Here's a sample of what's to follow:

Kaun Banega Crorepati motorcade: Between June 30 and July 2, over 30 motorists will move around the busy streets and important hot spots of cities like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Lucknow and Bhopal carrying huge cut-outs announcing the countdown to the show. Mystic money machine: On July 2, huge money machines will be placed at local shopping malls in cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Delhi for the public to play simple games and win fancy prizes.

Transparent street blimps: On July 3, a specially designed Kaun Banega Crorepati mobile van, with huge cut-outs of Big B, will move around several cities. These will be complimented with quizzes and fun games for Amitabh fans with lot of prizes thrown in.

Dinner date with the Big B: It is a classic case of an attempt to reach your heart through the stomach. Mumbai's popular dabba (lunch) service recipients have a surprise in store on July 3. Apart from delicious lunch, the box may well contain a invitation for a date with Amitabh Bachchan.

Kaun Banega Crorepati chartered buses: On the evening of July 3, Mumbaikars need not wait on endless queues or need to rush and push to get back home. Special fare-free buses will get you to Churchgate and Chatrapati Terminus.KBC-painted Churchgate-Virar local train: This train will be flagged off on Monday morning, July 3. This will be first among the many branded trains to be running on Western Railways.
