New Delhi, July 3: An integrated energy policy is on the anvil, aiming at high levels of efficiency, equitable distribution and use and environment protection, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Monday announced."Clearly we need an integrated energy policy that aims at high levels of efficiency in the entire energy cycle, ensures equitable distribution and use, and protects our natural resources and the environment," Vajpayee said inaugurating a new complex of the Tata Energy Resources Institute (Teri). The government, he added, would on its part, do whatever was required to popularise the efficient use of energy through the energy policy that would "cover all forms of supply and all means of consumption".
Lauding Teri for its innovative architecture that incorporated renewable energy use and produced no waste, the Prime minister said in a unique inauguration through tele-conferencing that technological innovations and change were the twin requirements to secure a sustainable energy future.
He exhorted architects, builders, town planners and others involved in housing and habitat to draw upon Teri's skills and incorporate environmental protection and sustainable energy use in new constructions.
Located on a 100-acre complex at Gual Pahari in Gurgaon, Teri's new training institute is not connected to the grid and completely uses solar biomass gassifier to meet its energy needs.
