New Delhi, July 3: The Delhi high court on Monday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a status report on the progress of investigation into the cases of alleged cheating and fraud by Punjab and National Bank CMD Rashid Jilani.A division bench comprising Justice Anil Dev Singh and Justice MK Sharma, while asking CBI to file the status report by October 18, also directed additional solicitor general (ASG) SB Jaisinghani to file an affidavit on latest position of the cases against Jilani, who has been asked to proceed on leave pending investigation.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation by the All-India Lawyers Forum for Civil Liberties (AILFCL) which alleged that Jilani had caused wrongful losses of several lakh rupees to the bank at least in three cases of fraud.
The Central Vigilance Commission had on October 13 last year recommended a CBI probe against Jilani after receiving complaints against him on various acts of alleged commission and omission.
After preliminary investigation, the CBI had registered an FIR against Jilani on October 28 after seeking permission from the finance ministry.
