HCL Comnet forays into MSP, launches Web based service

Mini K Joseph
Bangalore, Jul 19: The network integrator HCL Comnet Systems & Services has forayed into the rapidly growing Management Service Provider (MSP) space by launching a new venture called Comnet Direct and a Web-based service christened RouterManage.com. Briefing the media in Bangalore on Wednesday, company president Vineet Nayar said that by employing the MSP, companies would be able to off-load the job of monitoring, measuring and reporting on network and systems.

This would also help them cut down the cost of training and re-training of IT staff. Quoting Gartner Group estimation, he said MSPs market was expected to cross $2 billion by 2003. Nayar said RouterManage was expected to break the price barrier through portal delivery and would offer service at $25 per port a month for the first level of service. He added that the price would be $50 for the next tier. Nayar said the company already had conducted beta testing for 25 customers to try the applicability and stability of the product.

Targeted at ISPs and dotcoms, RouterManage.com would offer advanced functionality that ensures ongoing availability and performance of servers, networks, applications and services, he said. Comnet Direct and RouterManage are scheduled for launch on August 15.
