JP Systems sets sights on mobile automation

KAVITHA RAJASEKHAR
Kavitha RajasekharBangalore, July 20: Hyderabad-based JP Systems (India) Ltd is all set to explore the mobile automation segment with its range of Sales Force Automation (SFA) applications aimed at enabling hand held devices to facilitate field force/sales force automation.

The company, which was until recently focussing on building wireless/mobile device data connectivity solutions for the US market is looking at customising its applications to suit the Indian market requirements and offer a total solution. JPSIL is currently looking at the corporate, FMCG and government utility sectors for its solutions.

Speaking on the various applications, the company's CEO P Raghu Kumar told eFE that the company had built various applications to port on palm top devices for the US market.

Incidentally, the company has become the exclusive resellers for Palm Inc's range of Palm Pilots and has obtained the license to port its inhouse applications onto the Palm OS.

Its applications like `OneTouch Mail', which can enable one to send and receive e-mail in real time on the plamtop, and its ``Beam Link'' a solution that facilitates two-way paging via the hand held device would be customised and offered to Indian corporates, Kumar said.

As for the mobile automation solutions, Kumar said that two applications had already been developed - a billing application for the electricity board and a generic SFA solution which could be customised for specific industries.

``With the SFA solutions, the Palm top could be enabled to contain the database of information required by the sales force. Once the database is uploaded onto the handheld device, the person carrying the device could check all details (including order status, inventory details, prices, etc) and take orders instantly and upload it directly to the central server,'' he said.

The Palm devices were also enabled with detachable modems and an IR port which enabled one to dial up and upload/download more information, he added.JPSIL is looking at the FMCG, manufacturing and corporate sectors for this solution considering the large size of the sales teams and will offer a totally integrated solutions including the Palm device.

``The Palm device could also serve various other functions which can be easily developed and ported. Time and attendance monitoring, daily call reports etc could be tracked on the device itself,'' Kumar said.

With regard to the billing solution, the company is targeting the utility sectors like state electricity boards, etc. To this end, the company has already put together a pilot solution for the Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation.

As for other application derivatives, the company is exploring the banking and healthcare/hospital segments. JPSIL is also looking at offering WAP and SMS-based services and has already tied up with Airtel in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.

``We are also venturing into the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, New Zealand and Australia for mobile business/automation solutions,'' he said.

JPSIL is targeting revenues of Rs 5 crore this fiscal compared to Rs 1.5 crore last year.
