Internet trading to perk up volumesby 100% in 2 years: BSE president

Mumbai, July 20: Internet trading on the bourses will give tremendous boost to the business volume with number of trades likely to increase by 100 per cent in the next two years, Bombay Stock Exchange president Anand Rathi said here today.

Speaking at a seminar on `Internet trading' hosted by Financial Technologies Ltd in association with Ernst Young India here today, Rathi said the number of trades comprising of BSE and NSE which currently ruling around 1.2 million is likely to muster 100 per cent growth in the next two years.

According to him, the investor will benefit more in the Internet trading while it will also reduce the burden of stock brokers. The brokers may now can concentrate on their core business and may able to offer value added services to the investors in the future.

The BSE chief further said centralised Internet trading system, specially designed by the BSE for its members will become operational by September this year. With this centralised trading system, the investor directly can log on BSE and may execute trade anywhere in the country, he said.

Addressing the seminar, Jignesh Shah, CEO of Financial Technologies (FT) said the new dynamics of fast converging global financial markets and emerging universal financial institution will demand that Internet systems should deliver cost effective transactions at a single point.

This will increasingly create demand for products that deliver such transaction fulfillment that make available integrated end-to-end transaction applications.
