DSQ Software Q1 net up 129% to Rs 25.24 crore

Chennai, July 20: DSQ Software Ltd, has registered a turnover of Rs 100.49 crore (Rs 62 crore) for the first quarter ended June 30, 2000, an increase of 62 per cent over the corresponding period last year. Net profit was up 129 per cent and stood at Rs 25.24 crore (Rs 11 crore). Other income contributed Rs 1.03 crore (Nil).

Staff costs were up 50 per cent, at Rs 39.31 crore (Rs 26.42 crore) while total expenditure increased to Rs 63.28 crore (Rs 40.26 crore). Depreciation stood at Rs 13 crore( Rs 7.32 crore). The company has added 290 professional in this quarter and the total employee strength is about 1700.In move toward developing an intellectual property base the company plans to focus on developing expertise and products in areas such as bluetooth technology (a short range, low cost wireless solution), WLAN (to deliver internet content to wireless devices), unified messaging and euro converter.

The US market has contributed 60 per cent of the company sales, while the UK contributed 31 per cent. DSQ plans to expand its telecom and networking operations and started a development centre in Bangalore. The software oufit has also redefined its business focus to five strategic business units which are e-commerce, telecom & networking, CAD/CAM, Enterprise resource planning along with Customer relationship management & supply chain management and lastly application systems.
