July 31: Tata Tea Ltd has posted a 48 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 38.64 crore during the quarter ended June 30, 2000, even as its net sales was down by 10 per cent at Rs 192.46 crore.The company's other income rose to Rs 30.54 crore during the quarter compared to Rs 0.15 crore in the same quarter last year, mainly on account of dividends/interim dividends of subsidiaries, which were received in subsequent quarters in previous years, Tata Tea said in a release after its board meeting on Tuesday.
Interest costs and depreciation charges went up marginally to Rs 5.9 crore and Rs 5.05 crore from Rs 5.05 crore and Rs 4.72 crore respectively, it added.
The earnings per share of the company for the quarter was up at Rs. 6.87 against Rs 5.37 for the same quarter last year.
Siemens posts Rs 14.8 crore net in Q3
Siemens has posted a net profit of Rs 14.8 crore for the third quarter ended on June 30 2000 as against Rs 1.8 crore in the previous year. The turnover for the period stood at Rs 224.8 crore registering a rise of 8.7 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year which stood at Rs 206.8 crore.
Eicher in red with Rs 8.29 crore losses
Eicher Ltd slipped in the red in the first quarter ended June 2000, registering a loss of Rs 8.29 crore as against a net profit of Rs 4.88 crore in the same period the previous year.
The company's gross sales for the quarter stood at Rs 136.85 crore, down from Rs 147.65 crore for the corresponding period the previous year. The company has recorded a gross operating profit of Rs 2.61 crore.
According to Eicher group chairman and chief executive S Sandilya, "The year for the tractor industry has started on a disappointing note with the industry registering a negative growth of 17 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year." "The commercial vehicle industry also saw a negative growth of 3.7 per cent in the first quarter, leaving its impact on the component industry," he said. The recent rationalisation of excise duty on smaller HP tractors (below 1800 cc) in which Eicher is a dominant player, has further affected demand in the segment. Higher depreciation and interest charges relating to new investments including the company's manufacturing facilities in Bhopal for tractors and at Jaipur for motorcycles affected the bottomline. The investments will yield benefits in the coming months, he added.
Bombay Dyeing net dips 82 per cent
Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing, the Wadia group flagship, has reported an 82 per cent dip in net profit to Rs 1.13 crore during the first quarter ended June 30, 2000, against Rs 6.28 crore in the corresponding period last year. Net sales, however, increased from Rs 206.51 crore to Rs 230.18 crore, while other income declined from Rs 19.23 crore to Rs 17.66 crore during the period.
Rhone Poulenc net up 31 % to Rs 7.1 cr
Rhone-Poulenc India has registered a 31 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 7.10 crore for the quarter ended June, 2000 as against Rs 5.40 crore for the corresponding period in the previous year. Net sales rose to Rs 64.86 crore from Rs 55.38 crore for the same period.
Duphar posts Rs 3.44 crore net
Duphar-Interfran has posted a net profit of Rs 3.44 crore for the quarter ended June, 2000 as against Rs 1.90 crore for the corresponding quarter last year. Net sales rose to Rs 19.10 crore from Rs 16.49 crore for the same period.
Rallis India posts Rs 15.06 cr losses
Rallis India has posted a net loss of Rs 15.06 crore for the quarter ended June, 2000 as against a net profit of Rs 1.02 crore for the corresponding quarter in the previous year. Net sales declined to Rs 221.57 crore from Rs 286.93 crore for the same period.
Cinevista clocks Rs 2.2 cr net profits
Cinevista Communications has posted a net profit of Rs 2.20 crore and a turnover of Rs 14.43 crore for the quarter ended June, 2000.
Mather & Platt net rises to Rs 252 lakh
Mather & Platt has recorded a net profit of Rs 252 lakhs for the quarter ended June, 2000 as against Rs 40 lakhs for the corresponding quarter last year. Sales rose to Rs 1752 lakhs from Rs 885 lakhs for the same period.
Wellwin net soars 61 % to Rs 2.19 crore
Wellwin Industry Ltd has reported a 60.91 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 2.19 crore (Rs 1.36 crore) during the third quarter ended June 30, 2000. Income from operations of the company was up by 82.05 per cent at Rs 16.59 crore (Rs 9.11 crore) during the quarter. During the first nine months-ended June 30, 2000, Wellwin reported a net profit of Rs 5.93 crore on a sales of Rs 42.13 crore. The company has recently launched a new software product - Dr Heartz - for the healthcare industry.
BSEL Info Systems net up 36% to Rs 3 cr
BSEL Information Systems Ltd has registered a 35.93 per cent surge in net profit at Rs 2.96 crore during the quarter-ended June 30, 2000 as against Rs 2.17 crore in the corresponding period previous fiscal. The turnover of the company was up by 113.68 per cent to Rs 6.08 crore (Rs 2.84 crore) during the quarter. The gross profit of the company increased by 36.28 per cent to Rs 3.37 crore from Rs 2.47 crore.
VMC net jumps 49% to Rs 1.05 crore
VMC Software Ltd has clocked a 49.02 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 1.05 crore during the quarter-ended June 30, 2000 as against Rs 70.79 lakh in the corresponding period previous year. Total income was up by 79.73 per cent to Rs 1.78 crore (Rs 99.36 lakh) during the quarter. VMC is planning to set up a fully-owned subsidiary in Hong Kong with an investment of Rs 4 crore to tap the South East Asian market.
Hitechposts Rs 10 lakh net profit
Hitech Entertainment Ltd has registered a net profit of Rs 10.39 lakh on a total turnover of Rs 22.55 lakh during the quarter ended June 30, 2000. The company is planning to enter multimedia, 3D animation, IT management, TV serials, music albums and feature films. Hitech Entertainment is setting up a production house for making information technology-based software and entertainment programmes.
Nath Seeds posts Rs 7.3cr net
Nath Seeds has registered sales of Rs 81.68 crore and a net profit of Rs 7.38 crore for the 18-month period ended June 30, 2000. The company has changed its accounting year from December to June, to align it with the agricultural season. For the 12 months ended December 1998, sales stood at Rs 54.20 crore while profits stood at Rs 2.23 crore. The company has introduced 10 hybrids during the year and plans to launch 25 new hybrids in the next three years. Nath Seeds recently entered the northern belt with a mustard variety, Nath Sona.
NRB Bearings posts Rs 2.9cr net
NRB Bearings Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 2.94 crore during the quarter ended June 30, 2000, registering an increase of Rs. 0.55 crore, against Rs. 2.39 crore recorded in the corresponding period last year. Profit before tax for the quarter also saw an increase of Rs 0.95 crore to Rs 4.14 crore, against Rs 3.19 crore in the corresponding period last year. Net sales touched Rs 32.56 crore during the quarter ended June 30, 2000, against Rs 30.11 crore, in the corresponding period in the previous year.
