Editorial -- Value chain imperatives

Indian software companies need to move up the value chain fast. They have to make strategic acquisitions and build delivery scales. The government should make acquisitions less cumbersome. Riders in acquiring overseas software companies should go.

Software players should quickly cash in on the emerging e-commerce and mobile commerce opportunities. They should tailor their business models to focus on e-business solutions.

There are many small software companies around and it makes tremendous business sense to strike strategic alliances. Established players should leverage their inherent advantages and help smaller players attain critical mass. That is how India can make a big dent in the export markets. Alongside, Indian software players need to create their own niche areas.

All these initiatives can certainly make the Indian software industry world-class.
