Rupee drop pushes up external debt burden by Rs 12,000 crore
The 3.9% depreciation in the value of rupee as against the US dollar from April to August has increased the external debt burden by about Rs 12,000 crore. In contrast, the Indian Rupee had depreciated about only 2% from December 1998 to May 2000 against the Greenback.
HSBC net rises 126 per cent to Rs 122 cr in '99-00
HSBC has reported a 126% increase in net profit to Rs 122 crore for the year ended March 2000, up from Rs 54 crore in fiscal 1999-2000. Profit before tax recorded an increase of 95% to Rs 269 crore (Rs 138 crore).
Centre completes 48.5% of borrowing
The Centre has completed 48.5% of its targetted borrowing of Rs 1,16,861 crore within the first four months of this fiscal. The Centre has mopped up Rs 56,683 crore so far, which is 6.69% higher than the govt borrowing of Rs 53.130 crore between April-July last year.
