Cisco inks MoU with IIT, BITS
In a significant move to further contribute to the development of networking and Internet skills in India, Cisco Systems, Inc, has signed Memoranda of understanding with two leading technology institutes - the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. This will include the provision of advanced networking labs, scholarships and internships for students and agreements to work toward research collaborations.

HCL Infinet, UBS Publishers in pact to sell books online
HCL Infinet Limited the new Internet services subsidiary of HCL Infosystems, India's premier technology integration company on Thursday announced that it had tied up with UBS Publishers' Distributors Ltd, one of the largest distributors of books in the country, for its soon to be launched portal to sell books online.

State-of-the-art call centre at Guwahati soon
The North East Region (NER) will soon have a state-of-the-art call centre at Guwahati - the first of its kind in the North East - according to an understanding reached at Guwahati on Thursday between the Dalmia Group and the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFCL).

Global Online registers 522 per cent gain on first day trade
Global online, which launched its Indian portal with "category A" national licence, posted a 522 per cent gain during the first day of trading on the US stock market, the company announced on Thursday. "Global online India has debuted as the world's first truly global Indian portal providing Indians at home and abroad with the most comprehensive set of services available on the Net," according to president of portal development, GOL, Avanish Pande.

15 lakh new cellular connections this year: Nokia India chief
Close to 15 lakh new cellular subscribers would be added to the mobile phone users network this year in India, Nokia Networks country manager Simon Beresford said in Mumbai on Thursday. According to Beresford, the mobile information society has taken root in India and this augured well for the next exciting phase involving the marriage of the mobile phone with the Internet.

NetAcross opens Europe office in London
NetAcross, has announced the official opening of its first European office in London, located at 14, Flood Walk. Speaking on the inauguration, Manish Modi, chief entrepreneur, NetAcross said, "The London office represents yet another milestone for us. TSN unveils online retailing channel
Total Shopping Network (TSN) on Thursday launched its online retailing channel - `tsnshop.com. Tsnshop.com, a `multi-brand, multi-shop' online cyber mall, has on offer more than 65 brands and 3000 products across various categories.
