Kopran posts Rs 3.84 crore net profit in Q1

Kailash Rajwadkar
Mumbai, Aug 3: Kopran has posted a net profit of Rs 3.84 crore for the quarter ended June, 2000 as compared with Rs 2.25 crore for the corresponding period last year. However, turnover slipped down to Rs 51.53 crore for the same period. The improved profitability was attributed to the increase in domestic sales of formulations by 40 per cent to Rs 22.55 crore from Rs 16.11 crore.

During the year 2000-2001, Kopran plans to launch several new products which include atorvastatin - Cholestat (a cholesterol reducer), Rofecoxib an anti-arthritis drug), Sildenafil (the Indian version of Viagra) and Irbestatin (an anti-hypertensive drug). The company will make both the bulk and the dosage forms, thereby taking advantage of the integration between bulks and formulations.

The company after its demerger with Kopran Drugs, is now focusing on a major restructuring plan to enhance its business values. KResp, the respiratory division of Kopran, will be launching eight products as a dry powder inhalation system under the brand of Easchalers and Easecaps, the fastest growing segment in asthma care. Atenolol - Aten, the leading brand of Kopran used in the treatment of blood pressure has become the number one brand in the sales of cardiology medications as per ORG - May 2000.
