Nifty drops marginally to close at 1318 points

Mumbai, Aug 4: Share prices registered a mixed trend on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) here on Friday. Under the leadership of Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL), majority of the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) shares recorded noticeable gains on buying by local institutions and funds. However, Infotech, Communication and Entertainment (ICE) counters suffered a severe setback.

Mirroring the trend, S&P CNX Nifty resumed slightly lower at 1320.25 and hovered between 1302.65 and 1333.15 before closing at 1318.55, against 1321.25 previously, showing a marginal loss of 2.70 points.

CNX Nifty Junior also lost by 73.40 points to close at 2347.70 from 2421.10 previously.

S&P CNX Defty and S&P CNX 500 both eased to 1008.10 and 925.10 respectively from 1013.75 and 942.95 yesterday. CNX Midcap 200 was quoted lower at 808.85 as compared to 825.40. In the market, a large number of 584 securities declined,245 advanced and 68 held unchanged. Thirty-eight securities had hit their price band.

The total turnover was Rs 5256.64 crore from 891.77 lakh shares and in 6,78,953 trades. Turnover from debentures was Rs 2.43 lakh and the market capitalisation was Rs 7,25,993 crore. The most actively traded securities were Satyamcomp with a turnover of Rs 870.43 crore, Himachal Fut Rs 846.90 crore, Global Tele Rs 572.00 crore, Zee Tele Rs 464.22 crore, Infosys Tech Rs 453.63 crore, Sqrdsfware Rs 301.20 crore, Sterlite Rs 291.59 crore, Pentasfware Rs 206.00 crore and Wipro Rs 111.99 crores.

Other actively traded securities were Rolta Rs 109.33 crore, Reliance Rs 108.96 crore, Silverline Rs 103.53 crore, ITC Rs 83.20 crore, Softsolint Rs 79.71 crore, HLL Rs 75.52 crore, Ranbaxy Rs 51.59 crore, L&T Rs 37.51 crore, ACC Rs 34.59 crore, Digitaleqp Rs 33.10 crore, NIIT Rs 32.07 crore, SBIN Rs 29.56 crore, MTNL Rs 19.19 crore, Hughes Rs 18.82 crore.
