Compaq India launches Presario 5000, 7000 desktop series

Priya Srinavasan
Mumbai: Compaq Computer India has launched a new line of Compaq Presario desktops, the Compaq Presario 5000 and 7000 series. With a starting price of Rs 42,995, the range extends to the Rs 80,000 and above models (7000 series) which sport desktop video centres to create digital movies, among other features. The models also have a new design with interchangeable colour panels. Apart from this, the design of the model enables the user to upgrade memory or change the floppy drive panel in about 30 seconds. The speaker ports enable the user to play music from external sources like an MP3 player or a discman. "We feel the PC is now part of the overall entertainment experience and what we've created are tools for a lifestyle," says Alex Gruzen, VP, Asia Consumer Group, Compaq.

Speaking about Compaq's performance in India, Gruzen said that Compaq India was currently witnessing a growth that was about four times that of the market for home computers, which in turn had been growing at about 80 per cent per annum. The company has invested about Rs 25 crores in the form of operating capital in its production facility in India so far, which rolls out about 25,000 machines per month.
