Archies activates e-commerce strategy

New Delhi: Archies online.com Ltd is activating its e-commerce strategy by focusing on third-party gifting and building alliances with horizontal portals. Says Vineet Kumar Kapila, chief officer marketing and alliances, Archies online: ``Following a tie-up with Yahoo for providing e-greetings, we are considering MoUs with three India-centric horizontals.'' It is also negotiating with two companies for logistics support across the country.A subsidiary of Archies Greetings & Gifts Ltd, the B2C portal which originated in the company's cyber division in June, 2000, is being formally launched on the eve of Rakhi on August 15, 2000 (with promos in jaldi.com). Says Kapila, ``In the next six months, we are also planning to have aB2B integration to address retailers and distributors.''

Already Rs 50 lakh has been invested in the portal and another Rs 50 lakh will be invested by this month-end. Says Youhan Darrab Aria, chief officer logistics & finance, Archies online: ``It's very difficult to set break-even or revenue targets as the medium is still evolving.''

To broaden its appeal, the portal will take the number of SKUs from 1,200 to 1,400 in the next three months. The portal has got 5,000 registered users, which is expected to go up to 1,50,000 by the year-end. Also, in the last one month over 14,000 e-greetings were programmed on the site.
