Aban Informatics in e-ducation deal with Australian govt
Chennai-based Aban Informatics has finalised an A$80 million agreement with the Australian government to develop a school syllabus online - an education portal- a senior company official said on Thursday. Marketing manager Mr Lyju V Kuruvilla said talks were also in the final stages with the Malaysian government to develop a portal for Malaysian syllabi in Malay. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had also shown interest for similar projects.

Cisco Systems appoints marketing head for India Cisco System Inc has announced the appointment of Mr Rajeev Chopra as head-marketing, India operations. He will play a key role in the implementation of the next phase of Cisco's growth strategy for India, which was announced recently. In his new assignment, Mr Chopra will be responsible for product marketing, demand generation, education programmes, database and Internet marketing.

DTO revises STD/ISD PCO allotment norms The procedure for allotment of STD/ISD PCOs has been revised and simplified by the Department of Telecom Operations (DTO) following several suggestions from various quarters, including the standing committee of Parliament on communications to improve penetration of PCOs in many areas of the country. Wherever there is waiting list for STD/ISD PCOs, the order of priority shall be war-widows/departments, SC/STs, handicapped persons and ex-servicemen to the extent of 50 per cent of the STD/ISD PCOs to be allotted.ETC's special capsule on Hrithik Roshan
ETC will air Exclusive Hrithik, a special capsule on the current Bollywood heartthrob, five times a day from September 1 to September 8. ETC will present The Making of Fiza as part of the channel's policy to promote Bollywood entertainment. The 20-minute show will be aired on September 3 at 9.30 pm, with repeats the next day at 4 pm and 9.30 pm.

Nokia's Hothouse competition hots up
With just two months to go before the Asia-Pacific regional finals of the WAP Hothouse competition, the 350 contestants shortlisted to enter the next phase of the competition are intensifying their efforts to create some of the region's most unique WAP services. These contestants are in the stage of developing their ideas into applications, in time for testing and judging at the local market competition which will be held at the end of October. The contest is hailed as one of the big region-wide WAP companies in Asia-Pacific.
