Chennai: The Medical Center of Boston International Inc (MCBI), Boston, USA will be launching telemedicine service in the Dr MGR Medical University and Kilpauk Medical College (KMC), Chennai. This service will be formally launched by Mr M Karunanidhi, chief minister of Tamil Nadu, on Friday.To begin with, this service will be available at the university and at KMC and over a period of time will be extended to the other 14 government colleges in the state that are affiliated to the MGR University, said Dr Ahmed Mohiuddin, chairman and chief executive office.
Addressing reporters, he said, "We will be covering the entire state under this service". The centre has already entered into a memorandum of understanding with both the institutions for the purpose. This service will provide support in many stages of healthcare delivery such as second opinion, follow-up care and continuing medical education services. The centre has a broad consulting network comprising 250 physicians and medical professionals, most of them specialists, he added.
In the initial stages with this telemedicine project, the MGR University will be interested in educating practitioners.
