In a shift towards next generation mobile computing solutions, the $2.5- billion SGI has announced its alliance with 3ui, a Singapore-based company specialising in mobile infrastructure, strategies and solutions. The partnership, which is being extended to India, will leverage 3ui's core expertise in wireless data technologies and offer cutting-edge WAP solutions to lead telecommunications, ISPs, ASPs, financial institutions and brokerage houses into next generation mobile computing.Speaking to Financial Express, Mr Avinash Fotedar, director, marketing and channels, said: ``We're entering a happening market at the right time, much ahead of others.'' He added that SGI would drive broadband Internet, especially for applications like video-on-demand, learning-on-demand and media commerce.
SGI India is projecting a 45 per cent growth over the revenues of Rs 96.8 crore in 1999-00.
Mr Fotedar expects a significant growth in revenues coming from teleco media industry, which at present accounts for around 15-20 per cent of SGI's overall revenues. Manufacturing product design accounts for 35 per cent of SGI's revenues, education research 30 per cent, and public sector 20 per cent. Through this partnership, SGI is extending its reach from Asia Pacific and Europe to target ISPs and corporates in India.
SGI provides a broad range of high-performance computing and advanced graphics. Also, around 35 per cent of world's e-mail are handled by SGI servers. With this alliance, 3ui will offer two key competitive offerings in wireless data convergence to SGI: Eris and Ophelia. Eris is power-packed with a patented `selective content delivery' that brings personalisation of information on the move as well as offer a advantage over existing e-mail applications. Ophelia is a comprehensive WAP gateway solution that empowers organisations to deliver Web-based interactive information, advanced wireless services, applications and secure transactions over a wide range of mobile devices.
