The Ahmedabad-based EOU (export oriented unit) eInfochips has just launched the first Indian software 'e-inspector' to block unwanted Websites on Internet, in addition to advertisements, pop-ups and screaming banners says its chairman and managing director Pratul Shroff.According to Mr Shroff, the software is safe, affordable and offers twooptions to restrict undesirable Net usage: (a) blocking certain types ofsites completely or (b) lock the sites visited, including Web-based chatsites. It also has a default list of restricted sites that covers songs, movies, cricket, pornography, etc which can be customised by the individualstoo. He claims the price of the indigenously developed software at Rs 3,500 forindividual users or Rs 19,000 for institutions is at par with that availablefrom abroad, besides having additional facilities like giving one the optionto define one's own restrictions - by names or addresses or by keywords -saving a lot of time, electricity and telephone bills.
Quoting a recent survey, he points out, 40 per cent of all new sites arepronographic, 80 per cent have ads or banners and 90 per cent containtotally useless information.
