Hyderabad, Oct 4: Dr Reddy's Research Foundation (DRF), a research arm of DRL group, has received an approval from Drugs Controller General of India to carry out phase I clinical trails in India on its anti-cancer compound DRF-1042. The phase I clinical trials will be taken up at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad and Tata Cancer Hospital, Mumbai, a company statement said.DRF-1042 is a orally acting comptothecin analogue, which exhibits anti-cancer potential by inhibiting topoisomerase 1 enzyme. Another anti-cancer compound DRF-1644 developed in the research foundation is already in the clinical development in Europe with New Drug Development Office, which is specialising in the development of anti-cancer drugs.
This apart, DRF has seven other compounds are in the pipeline, which are in the areas of diabetes, cancer and pain management. DRL has already licensed two of its anti-diabetic compounds to Novo Nordisk of Denmark and received milestone payment of US $ 8 million.
While two other compounds, a metabolic disorder drug DRF-MDX8 and anti-diabetic compound have completed preclinical development and ready for licensing, said the release.
