Tata Engineering sales skid 29%
Tata Engineering has posted a 29 per cent fall in sales to 3,577 units in September this year against 5,044 units in the same month of the previous year. The company's sales, however, increased by 3.1 per cent compared to 3,469 units in August this year, general manager and head of the passenger car division Rajiv Dube said. Sales of the small car Indica went up by 17.2 per cent to 24,955 units in the first half of the current fiscal from 21,286 units in the same period of the previous fiscal.Ikon sales up 22%
Ford India sold 1817 units of the Ikon in September, an increase of 22 per cent over August sales. A company statement says that Ford India has garnered a 22 per cent market share, selling 14,418 units during the nine month period ended September 2000. Ikon sales were higher than Hyundai Accent and Maruti Esteem. The sales of Accent totalled 1740 units in September, while Maruti sold 1462 units of Esteem.
Essar Shipping's new CEO
Essar Shipping has promoted chief financial officer Rajiv Agarwal as an executive director and CEO, Mr. Sanjay Mehta as the managing director. Mr BS Kumar, who was the managing director, has now moved to develop and take care of the group's prestigious fast track Hazira port development project with Shell.
CLSS exceeds original target
The company law Settlement Scheme (CLSS) - 2000, has exceeded its original target of Rs 100 crore by fetching a sum of Rs 143.67 crores as computed till today. This scheme was launched initially for a period of three months from June 1 to August 31, 2000. A total of 1,26,513 companies corresponding to 49.63 per cent of 2,54,911 defaulting companies, which were served notices by the Government (Department of Company affairs), responded to the CLSS-2000. At present 4,95,741 companies are in existence and functional.
Suntook chief of CFBP
Tata Services Ltd ex-president KN Suntook was elected president of the Council for Fair Business Practices (CFBP), Mumbai, for the term 2000-2002. Mr VS Palekar was elected as vice-president, Mr Dinesh Parekh as honorary treasurer and Mr Mohan Gurnani and Mr Bhanu Vakil as honorary secretaries. CFBP is a forum for businessmen committed to protect the rights of consumers and to promote fair business practices.
Emirates offer for passengers
Emirates has offered first-class travel for life to the three winners to be picked up by a draw on December 9, 2000. Each winner will receive two first-class tickets to any destination on the Emirates network for life. To be eligible, passengers must travel on commercial tickets and fill in the coupon available in seat pockets on all Emirates flights and hand it over to the cabin crew during the next two months.
New IEEMA president
Emco Ltd chairman and managing director Rajesh Jain has been elected president of Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA) for the year 2000-01. Indo Asian Fusegear chairman and managing director VP Mahendru and Larsen & Toubro executive vice-president RN Mukheeja are the new vice-presidents. The newly-elected IEEMA executive council has decided to focus on industry issues arising out of the present economic situation and the liberalised environment, according to a press release.
Bicycles firms garner Rs 14 cr
Major Indian bicycle and its component manufacturing companies generated a business of Rs 14 crore at the recently concluded four-day international bicycle fair IFMA in Cologne, Germany. The Indian participation was organised by the Indo-German Export Promotion Project. IFMA is considered as one of the biggest bicycle and its components fair in the world with more than 23,000 buyers coming from foreign markets.
Max subsidiary's share purchase
Max India has informed the BSE that Neeman Medical International Plc of the UK, a second generation subsidiary of Max India, has on Sept 25, 2000 executed a share purchase agreement with Instituto Constarricense de Investgaciones Clinicas, (ICIC), a Costa Rican company, for acquisition of 75%stake in ICIC, subject to necessary approvals.
