Jobsahead.com sets sights on expansion in the US

Kumarkaushalam
New Delhi: As part of its strategy to expand to international markets, Jobsahead.com has outlined its plans to start operations in the US market. The recruitment solutions company plans to invest around $4 to $5 million over the next two years.

Complementing company's international drive will be Jobshahead's newly constituted TechStar Club. The TechStar Club will be a list of top IT professionals in India, who are seeking placements in the US. According to the company, ``The Club will not only enable the jobseekers to break through the shackles of body shoppers but also help them realise their true market worth.''

The US operations and Techstar Club are expected to account for around 50 per cent of overall revenues. The company is expecting $2 million in the fiscal 2000-01, $10 million in 2001-02 and $20 million in 2002-03.

In the next two years, the company plans to invest around $5 million in the international market and $2-$3 million in the domestic market. Having already raised around $5 million, the company is readying to raise next round of funding in a month. Says Mr Puneet Dalmia, CEO, Jobs Ahead.com: ``Countries are changing their immigration policies to attract Indians. International market is certainly emerging as a profitable segment.''

In the first phase, the company plans to focus on the US market, especially territories like California, Texas, Chicago and Wall Street. In the second phase, in the year 2002, the company will expand to markets like UK and Germany. At a later stage, the company is also expected to focus on countries like Australia, Japan and Italy.

Under the TechStar Club, the company is expecting to build a list of between 25,000 and 30,000 IT professionals in the next six months. ``If you are able to place 20,000 software professionals the potential is over $ 20 million by the year 2002,'' says Mr Dalmiya. ``Indians coming through TechStar Club stand to get salaries between $ 55,000 and $ 70,000.''

The company boasts of a list of over one lakh IT profesionals; over two lakh resumes, four lakh registered users and five lakh visitors a month.

The company is in active stages of discussions with over 20 companies, especially MNCs, for providing end-to-end recruitment solutions. ``We need to have around 150-200 companies,'' says Mr Dalmia.

The company charges $2,000 to $ 10,000 per transaction, depending on the profile of the jobseeker. Besides corporates, the company is also looking at career Websites for strategic alliances in the US. For the domestic market, the company has already forged alliances with rediff.com, indya.com, and MSN.com.
