Mumbai, Oct 23: The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SERTPC) organised the first exclusive Indian Textile exhibition in Jordan from October 17-19. A 13-member-exporters of the council participated in the exhibition, that was jointly organised by the Indian Embassy in Jordan. Addressing the participants in Jordan, SERTPC chairman GK Gupta said the country is making great strides under the leadership of King Abdullah II. "India, with textiles exports of around $1.2 billion, wants to be a part of this economic progress, especially in the field of textiles, as Jordan is a part of the Arab Free Trade Agreement and the Mediterranean Agreement which allows free access for products from Jordan to these markets".
Further, Mr Gupta said that currently the exports of synthetic textiles to Jordan was only $1 million, but "we hope that this exhibition will be mutually beneficial." According to SERTPC, Jordan is expected to sign a free trade agreement (FTA) with the USA shortly, which will make it the fourth country to be given this privilege.
