Mumbai freight rates remain stable

Mumbai : Freight rates for nine-tonne truck load from Mumbai to various parts of the country witnessed a stable week, except for Delhi and its two neighbouring states - Haryana and Punjab to which the rates declined by Rs 500-300. The rates to these places fell as cargo movement declined as Diwali approached.

The rates to Delhi fell by Rs 500 to settle at Rs 15,000. Transporters opined that truck rates to the capital may further decline a few hundred rupees in the coming week. The rates to Haryana and Punjab also took a beating of Rs 400 and Rs 300 respectively because of the fall in rates to Delhi.

According to transporters, post-Diwali the rates may marginally go down to most parts of the country as cargo movement is likely to slow down. The rates to upper northern states remained same last week. For instance, rates from Mumbai to Jammu commanded Rs 22,000 per trip, while rates to Parmanu in Himachal Pradesh were at Rs 18,500. The rates to Bihar after declining nearly Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 a fortnight back, were also stable. The rates to Patna were quoting at Rs 22,000, while rates to Muzaffarpur were at Rs 19,500.

Truck rates to Uttar Pradesh were also steady last week. The Mumbai to Lucknow rates continued to quote at Rs 16,000, while those to Agra were at Rs 12,500.In the western region, the rates continued to rule firm. The freight rates to Surat were at Rs 3,500, while Indore in Madhya Pradesh was commanding a little above Rs 6,000.

The rates to Jaipur in Rajasthan were at Rs 11,500, while rates to most places in Maharashtra were firm. In the east too, the rates to most places were stable. For instance, Guwahati was commanding Rs 34,000, while Calcutta ruled firm at Rs 20,000. The rates to Cuttack, however, were quoting at Rs 17,000. Freight rates to south also toed the same line as most of other states. The rates to Hyderabad hovered over Rs 6,500, while rates to Bangalore were stable at Rs 10,500. The rates to Chennai were at Rs 13,500, while those to Kochi fell by Rs 500 to Rs 16,000.
