Ornamental fish website launched A website, which would provide information on various indigenous ornamental fish species found in fresh, brackish and marine water bodies of Kerala, was launched on Thursday. The School of Industries Fisheries of Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has created the website for on-line market development of ornamental fish varieties of the state. The site, www.ornamentalfishes.com, would feature details of nearly 150 Kerala varieties, including 50 fresh water fishes, besides details regarding the possibility of captive breeding and species and research institutes, which have perfected the breeding techniques.`Research benefits to reach people' Kerala fisheries and cultural affairs Minister TK Ramakrishnan on Thursday stressed the need for extending the benefits of research findings in various sectors to the people. He said Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who had set up the Planning Commission, had admitted at a later stage that the benefits of research had failed to reach the people in time. Tea associations express concern Tea associations of North Bengal, have resolved to submit a memorandum to the state government demanding security for planters and tea garden managements following the recent abduction of a tea planter and the gunning down of his son by miscreants. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the associations, which expressed serious concern over the incident and decided that their representatives would meet home (police) minister, Buddhadev Bhattacharjee early next week.
