Meet on sugarcane research project
The 23rd biennial workshop of `All India Coordinated Research Project on Sugarcane' would be held here from Nov 2. Sugarcane scientists from different parts of the country, state and national level extension officials and officers representing sugar industry would be participating in the 3-day workshop to be held at Sugarcane Breeding Institute here. Close on the heels of relaxing paddy procurement norms from Punjab and Haryana, Food and consumer affairs minister Shanta Kumar said a decision on relaxing the norms for UP would be taken after an expert committee submits its report on the grain quality. Bowing down to pressures from UP government torelax the procurement norms for paddy, Kumar said the centre would consider the problem sympathetically, an official statement said. The food ministry is sending a team of experts to UP to assess the condition of paddy arriving in the grain mandis for procurement for the central pool.
