New Delhi, Oct 27: Escorts-LG combine has emerged the lowest bidder in the Rs 2,100 crore Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) tender of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for the Village Public Telephones (VPT).While Escorts-LG combine quoted Rs 35,000 per set of WLL equipment including terminals, its nearest competitor public sector ITI along with its partner Lucent Technologies quoted Rs 40,000 per set. HFCL along with Hyundai Communications came third quoting Rs 42,000 per set.
As per the tender procedures, Escorts-LG combine will get 50 per cent of the total order size amounting to three lakh lines, offcial sources told the Financial Express after evaluation of the bid documents today. This means scort-LG combine would get an order worth Rs 1,050 crore at its quoted price of Rs 35,000 crore. The remaining quantity of the order would be shared between the next two players. There has been recent reports that BSNL is planning to peg down the order size to two lakh lines, against its tender size of six lakh lines. But when contacted the Deputy Director General in charge of tenders B N Bharadwaj said BSNL would place an order of only two lakh lines immediately.
