New Delhi : For all those of you, who have not yet bought a personal computer (PC) because you don't know enough about PCs to make an educated decision and don't trust the computer re-sellers and assembler, here is some good news. Samsung Electronics India Private Limited (SEIP) on Wednesday launched a knowledge to customer (K2C) portal to enable Netizens to configure their own PCs.The www.buildurpc.com will help individuals identify their PC needs and offer them the flexibility of configuring their PCs by using the Internet. The company also announced that it had earned a total revenue of Rs 425 crore from its first six months of operations, as opposed to the expected turnover of Rs 400 crore. "Our performance in the first six months indicated that we will surpass the initial projection of Rs 800 crore as turnover for the first year, and will probably reach Rs 1,000 crore," said Mr Vivek Prakash assistant general manager, IT Sales, SEIL.
Worldwide, the company expects to record an annual turnover of $33 billion by the end of the year 2000. The Indian operations will contribute 0.8 per cent to the global revenues of the company.
This unique K2C initiative to help make PC buying "an easier experience" is not just another channel to sell Samsung products, explained Mr Prakash. "The Website will give information about all products available in the market and assist users in purchasing them. Our attempt is to increase the size of the market, which will then reflect positively in our growth. This K2C Website will basically act as a market enabler," he added.
According to SEIP director, Mr J S Jong, www.buildurpc.com will substantially minimise the customer's dependence on assemblers and dealers. It will help identify PC requirements of a person - within a given budget, define the needs in terms of PC Configuration and upgrades for existing PC users. The company has nearly 10,000 "non-exclusive" dealers/assemblers to help complete the `purchase' cycle.
