Bangalore : Us-based PurpleYogi Inc, promoted by well-known Silicon Valley entrepreneur and angel investor Rakesh Mathur, has set up its development centre in Bangalore.This is part of the company's plans to expand operations. The centre will cater to development activities related to its Yogi Discovery Systems.The discovery system functions as an advanced intelligent search which is aimed at connecting the relevant content to the right people, identifying the needs and interests of the user. The company has also developed a client version of the software (a downloadable Yogi).
The company, founded in September 1999, has raised approximately $20 million in its first round of venture funding led by Softbank venture capital, Intel Capital, Skyblaze ventures and individual investors. Another $15 million in the second round of funding is in the pipeline.
Company's founder chairman and CEO Rakesh Mathur told reporters that the key strategy was to make networks like the Internet aware and to optimally find suitable information that was available in an unstructured form on the Internet. Purple Yogi is targeting the enterprise, portal, publication, financial and information aggregation segments to power the company's online information.
"Once the systems, both at the server (in case of corporate usage) and on the client end (in case of an individual user), are enabled to be aware of what the browser is looking for, it will intelligently supply the information, personalised to suit specific interests," Mr Mathur said.
