Steel production rises by 5.8 per cent
New Delhi, Nov 1: The main producers of steel - SAIL, Iisco, Tisco and Vizag steel plant have produced 77.06 lakh tonnes of saleable steel during the first half of this fiscal, which is 5.8 per cent more as compared to the production in the corresponding period.Out of this, the steel authority of India (SAIL) has produced 46.68 lakh tonnes which is 3.5 per cent more than the previous year.During this period Indian iron and steel company (Iisco) produced 1.35 lakh tonnes, Tata iron and steel company (Tisco) 17.55 lakh tonnes and Vizag steel plant 11.48 lakh tonnes of saleable steel. Production of 4.49 lakh tonnes of pig iron during these six months was 10.4 per cent less than the target and 27.3 per cent less as compared to April-September 1999. Apparent consumption of finished steel in the country during this period was 134.70 lakh tonnes which is 11 per cent more than the apparent consumption during April-September 1999.
