Hyundai, Honda Siel, Daewoo sales race ahead in October

New Delhi, Nov 1: Hyundai Motors, Honda Siel and Daewoo Motors have reported higher sales in the month of October 2000 compared to corresponding month last year. Hyundai Motor, the second largest car manufacturer sold 7363 cars in October, 2000 in spite of severe capacity constraints. Sales in October were up 18.6 per cent over the sales in October last year.

Honda Siel Cars India Ltd on Wednesday reported 37 per cent jump in the sales of mid-sized passenger car Honda Siel to 621 units in October 2000 as against 452 units sold in the corresponding month of the previous year.

Cumulative sales during the first seven months of the current fiscal reported a 10 per cent increase in car sales at 5,772 units compared to 5,268 units in April-October 1999, a company statement said here.

However, sales during October 2000 were the second lowestafter July this fiscal when the company sold 606 units.

Honda Siel notched up its highest sales in September when it sold 1101 units. Daewoo Motors on the other hand sold 4564 cars in October this year, up 40 per cent from 3259 cars sold last year.

For the 8-month period ended October 2000, Hyundai's sales were up 60.5 per cent to 75,842 cars. Further, cumulative sales till date have gone up to 1,44,629 cars since launch of its cars in October 1998.

In case of Daewoo Motors, out of 4,564 cars sold in October, Matiz accounted for 4,405 units while Cielo and Nexia made up for the rest. During April-October this year, Daewoo Motors sold 33,693 cars registering over 88 per cent increase in sales of 17,927 cars recorded in the corresponding period of last year.

Further, for the 8-month period ended October, sale of Daewoo cars has gone up to 48,568 cars, up from 20,725 achieved last year. The company has recently introduced two new variants of Matiz-SG and SA- with attractive conveneince and safety features like power steering and ATS at an attractive price to make these available to large section of automobile buyers.
