Myneton sets up wholly owned unit in Bangalore

Kavitha Rajasekhar
US-based start-up Myneton Communications Inc has set up its 100 per cent subsidiary in Bangalore. The India centre will function as the key development centre and the hub for Asia operations. The company is also looking at setting up its own data centers at locations where key customers are based.

Myneton Communications, promoted by six professionals hailing from telecom and networking majors like Nortel, Motorola, Lucent, Intel, Netscape and 3Com is currently developing its wireless infrastructure platform which will migrate the services currently available on 2G to services to function on 3G platforms thus facilitating broadband and multimedia services over wireless networks.

The company currently has filed two patents for its platform and is likely to file for three more patents.

Myneton is also currently close to signing on three key GSM operators in the US, Italy and India.

Speaking to The Financial Express, the company's director Isaac Eteminan said that the focus was on the emerging wireless Internet market where there were large scale requirements to support intelligent services, advanced voice and data functions across the networks.

"Myneton will focus on building interfaces that can allow users to personalise services. With our platform, the services can be ported across networks and can function on a range of devices including PDAs to smart phones,'' Mr Enteminan said.

The services are targeted both at individual users and corporate users and include technology features like user-preference based call forwarding, screening, etc. Corporate services like VPN (virtual private networks) can also be enabled on the platform. Once a cellular operator has deployed the Myneton platform, he will be able to offer the specific services to his subscribers.

``The key idea is to allow the user applications to be available anywhere and anytime. The platform therefore integrates all the different kinds of devices operating on the network and enables them to function as a whole.

This is especially useful in the corporate segment for services like creating VPNs,'' he added.

The platform is enabled to support all technology platforms including GSM II (limited data transfer capacity), EDGE and 3G which can support data transfers up to to 2 mbps.

The India development centre will have close to 50 engineers and will eventually be built up to support significant marketing and technical support activities.
